Some places possess power. Power to evoke memories of movement, tradition, hard work, lifeways and the relationship of humans, animals and the environment.  One such place is the Denver Stockyards.  Walking the pathways, exploring the stock pens, finding wonder in overgrown weeds, and beauty in a much-used weigh station; looking at horses from walkways previously used by ranchers to evaluate stock; and connecting with the rich history of this place and the lives of those spent working in the yards, moved me to return many times.  Each visit I discovered something new; vibrant colors, delicate plants, tufts of hair left on nails from animals herded through the space, and hand-forged hardware from an era in which invention came from necessity and craftsmanship held high value.  These feelings return to me every time I look at the images captured in this historic place.
