My grandmother Almadora, or as most people knew her “Emma”, was born on this day in 1905. She died on July 2, 1999. I was with her when she left this earth. The third part of our trinity, my mom Fran, was also there. I think of my grandmother often; she is always with me. She was a soulmate, a best friend who taught me so many things. A major force in my life, she and my mom showed me the meaning of love; that family comes first; instilled in me loyalty and passed on to me the value of integrity and hard work. I am from a long line of strong women (and men) whose sacrifices and desire for a better life for their families, have afforded me countless opportunities and grace. In 2002 my daughter Emma became a part of a new trinity; and so grace and opportunity pass to her. Although there is so much more to come, today seems most fitting to launch The House of DiGiacomowebsite. This site is my creative space. It is also a place to remember, to pay homage to the people, places and events that move me and to offer visitors to the site insight into who I am, my life and all its blessings. I hope the site moves you, brings you joy, inspires you, and reminds you of your own grace and beauty in this world.
Happy birthday Gram.
When my family moved in across the street from Emma’s, in the 1960s, my mom became good friends with her. Whenever we kids couldn’t find my mom in the house, we could always glance across the street to see her sitting and chatting with Emma on her porch.
Very sweet and well done. Strong women in that family and keep up the good work. Look forward to see more art from Alisa?
What beautiful way to celebrate your grandmother Alisa! I love it!
