PCCLI1811 Located at 3759 Lipan Street in North Denver, the building that formerly housed the Piro Mercantile still stands today; many north Denverites remember it as the old Subway Tavern. Look above the door and you’ll still see the letters EP for store owner Eugene Piro. Born in Italy in 1884, Piro immigrated to the United States in 1909. Around 1914 he settled in Denver, where in 1920 he opened the Piro Mercantile.
